The First International Academic Conference on the Agricultural History of East Asia

  The First International Academic Conference on the Agricultural History of East Asia, was held at China Agricultural Museum from November 28 to December 2, 2011. There were 19 scholars and experts from China, Japan and Korea present at the conference.

  The conference focused on three themes: ⑴ Chinese, Japanese and Korean traditional agricultural works and knowledge since the 15th century; ⑵ the introduction and application of western modern agricultural science and technology since the 19th century; ⑶ the relationship between the agricultural modernization and tradition. Scholars from the three countries altogether delivered nine academic presentations during the conference.

  At the end of the conference, scholars were engaged in a discussion about the content and form of future cooperation, reaching a consensus that the Second International Academic Conference of the Agricultural History of Eastern Asia would be held at Osaka University of Economics, Japan from May 28 to June 4, 2002. The theme of the 2nd Conference would be “Traditional Farming Method in East Asia─ Focusing on Farming Methods in the Paddy Field”.

  Afterwards, the international academic conference on the agricultural history of East Asia has becomes an annual symposium held alternatively in China, Japan and Korea by the academic societies of agricultural history in the three countries. Eleven conferences have been held till 2011.
